The Soleil Lace Shawlette knitting pattern

Stitches West was such a great experience this year!  I met some of you and also got to pet and bring home with me some absolutely beautiful yarn.

One of the new to me yarns I discovered is Sunshine Yarns, owned by Dani, who dyes all of her yarn and fiber.

Sneak peek: Soleil shawlette!

Well, okay, actually Adrienne from Wool Candy discovered Dani – and I’m so glad she did and that she made sure to pull me over to the Sunshine Yarns booth!

Sunshine Yarns has absolutely gorgeous colorways!  And absolutely sumptuous base yarns!

I brought home with me several yarns of Dani’s Luxury Sock Yarn:  silky, soft and an absolute delight to knit.

I nearly immediately started working on a design using Luxury and you can see the final result above:  the Soleil Lace Shawlette.

I loved the process of designing Soleil.  I knew I wanted to use the buttercup lace edging from Barbara G. Walker’s A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns.  I love this lace edging and have been dying to use it in a shawl, for its sheer, old-fashioned romance.

But I needed a stitch pattern for the shawl body, other than stockinette or garter stitch.  I wanted texture using a pattern easily memorized after just a few repeats.  And found it in the same Walker Treasury.  The shell stitch I used almost looks like crocheted shells, doesn’t it?

Ultimately, I wanted a shawlette that you can wear to the office with your favorite blouse and skirt and then with jeans and a tee shirt and also with a sweet little Spring dress on a date with your special someone.  I can also see this in a fine white or subtle semi-solid ivory, topping off a lovely and elegant wedding dress.

Soleil is only available at Sunshine Yarns as a kit, and here’s the even better news:  the kit goes live TODAY (Tuesday 4/12) at 10 a.m. MDT.  (NOTE:  Soleil sold out in just minutes, but will be available with Dani’s next update with more colors!) Dani has created a few brand new colorways and is also introducing a new base in addition to her Luxury Sock Yarn:  Silk Cashmere two-ply light fingering (doesn’t that sound divine???).

The Soleil Shawlette/Luxury Sock kit:  $35
The Soleil Shawlette/Silk Cashmere kit:  $40

Let me know if you order a kit!  I’d love to know which base yarn and colorway you chose – share in the comments, please!
